I have an l4150 that has 540 and 750 rpm pto. I am not sure when to use 750 instead of 540. Is it an attachment thing or an efficiency thing?

As M says....
however be aware that 'technically' the shaft spinning at 750 RPM has less torque (power) than when at 540 RPM. Now how much less, you'd have to calculate though I don't suppose Kubota has charts on this.

The other PTO speeds are used in other countries but the USA standard on implements seems to be 540 for rear mounted implements.

Someone told me it’s good for a finish mower because it turns up a little faster. Not sure how much truth there is to that.

Wrong most are to operator at 540...Turning the mower at 750 can damage it...

Not overly useful. If you're running something where you're overpowered you could run the faster PTO and slow the engine down to get 540. One of our members does this with his backhoe.

Do the bigger tractors have a tachometer for the pto shaft?
Is pto rpm to engine rpm linear?
Not that I am about to try it. Why mess with what has worked so far ?

We had an IH 1086 that did but I don't think many of the compacts do. PTO speed is linear to engine speed though so you just need to be able to do fractions.
