Been a few years since i tried so got it done today. Shift knob was glued to shaft. Heated shaft with propane torch, then used 1/2 in open end wrench under knob and hammer to tap off knob. Changed boot. WATCH OUT, SHAFT IS HOT!
put knob on shaft and tapped into place with hammer.

Unless a DIY has added glue I don't believe the knobs are glued on. I've had mine off several times and it's always difficult to get it off and I've never put glue on mine.

How’d you get them off?

I wrapped a rag around the knob and used a pipe wrench and twisted it off. Once you get it moving it easily comes off. I have it off now so I could remove the boot. It was easier to take it off than to mask it while I'm painting the frame. I think this time I used a wood clamp to remove it.

I had the smaller red knob on my 7000 I just put silicone on the knob and boot and pulled it over Now this 7100 has a larger know that does not turn may try that again.
