Turf Tire Q.

I own a Kubota B2320. I have industrial (farm) tires, but I need to get turf tires as my industrial tires are trashing my lawn. They work fine for bush-hogging my pasture. The current tires are 11.2-16, and the Kubota dealer says I need 33x15.5-15 or 33x12.5-15. It looks like the rim diameter is different, so I will also have to get new rims. Is there a reason I can not put 16" turf tires on the old rims?? My industrial tires are 15 years old and a little beat up. Also, is there any reason I could not use the new turf tires (and rims, I assume) to bush hog? My pasture is a little steep, but it is only 4 acres. Last question-anybody have any recommendations between the 2 different sizes of turf tires??

If you have 4WD you should keep the tire size ratios otherwise you are putting excess load on your drive train. You need to look at the circumstances not just wheel size, can't answer the question based on the information provided.

16" turf tires are likely wider than your current rims, also.

Do you have industrial tires (R4) or what is commonly called AG tires(R1, which would equate to farm tires)?

Sounds like you have AG tires...Turfs will certainly be better for you than either of the others.

It has been advised here many times to ordera set of tires/wheels through "Whole goods" from the sales department. The parts department prices everything independently, and is more expensive that the whole goods price if you want a set of tires mounted on wheels.

The price difference between whole goods and parts department has been stated as being substantial.

No reason to change the wheels if you can find the correct sized 16" tires. The major advantage I see of changing to 15" is a greater variety of tire choices when it comes to turf tires. The taller sidewalls of a 15" would make for a better ride, but that 1/2" isn't much. The dealer might be more interested in a bigger sale than anything. That's one reason why I almost never buy a tire from a tractor dealer, I go to a tire store.

Between the two tire options, I think the 15.5 and 12.5 are the tire width. The 15.5 would be wider and spread the tractor weight more and probably be a smoother ride over a yard.
