There is a problem with these as they go open after a very short time.
Maybe the water drops below the heater a little and they burn out.
You might want to check yours if it's older than two years.
Time for an oil immersion heater.

Was this a reply to a post? Seems to have gotten lost in cyberspace!

As for the oil heater - better than nothing obviously but it will not heat an engine as fast or thoroughly as a water jacket or inline lower radiator hose.

It was more of a "test your block heater" the life span of these seems to be two years (two seasons).
I have to wonder how many people are plugging in dead heaters?
Why they quit is a mystery, the only reason I can think of is they aren't totally covered in water.
I have been looking for a heater for the lower hose which I think is 3/4 inch inside but a 1 inch heater fitting might work.

No where Special
I`ve never used them just for that reason alone. I hear people complain about them because they dont last long. Any that i`ve seen, are of cheap quality from what i`ve seen. Pretty sad for what they cost you.

I have a big heater i can park near my tractor to warm it up if i have to. I havent needed to in awhile though.

How long do you leave it plugged in for?

It's not the cord, this is a common problem with these heaters.
I only used these heaters for one hour to one and half hours. at a time.
Thus the reason for installing an ammeter, I was suspicious after the first one failed so quickly.

We install a lot of the heaters and rarely ever see a failed element. Most of our customers only run the heaters for under 2 hours.
