I have an L2850 that needs a new clutch I have a price of $6K to do the job splitting the tractor and replacing clutch. looking for someone that might be able to do the job for less. It is an older tractor and not sure if it is worth putting more that $2-3K into it? Other than the clutch the tractor runs well and the hydraulics are sound.

Hello
I would fly from California to Connecticut and put a clutch in your tractor for half that. $6000 sounds a little out of line. 8 hours labor with no loader plus 3 or 4 hours depending on type of loader. Plus parts. Even at dealer labor rates of $100 to $135 that is a little high.
Good luck Lance

I think 6K is the "I don't really want to do it price but if you insist"

Thank you for the reply, I am trying to find a mechanic that might be able to help me without having to pay the dealer service pricing. I have read some blogs that some people prefer to do the job with the loader on have you ever done it that way?

Typically trying to do a clutch job with a loader on does not make sense. It may be possible with the type of loader you have. I would not do it that way. It's best to get it out of the way so you can play the tasks in a timely manner. Good luck. Lance

I bet the shop rate out east is more than 135/hour. Probably like 150 at a dealership. Everything including the cost to live is higher out there..... and, a clutch job on an older unit usually entails finding other items that need replaced / renewed so they may be factoring in the unknown as well.

I have a Kubota mechanic that runs an ad on Craig's list almost all the time. So check Craig's list and Face book and if you have doubts about the mechanic ask for references. If the refuse to give references you do not want them. Any brand of dealer should be able to do a clutch.

I did my L345dt. left the loader on, it helped steady the front while I rolled the rear section on a floor jack. I disconnected the loader from the rear axle only. I had to brace the motor up good so it couldn't move.
