Over the last two years I have had issues with the 1/4 inch shear bold on my Kubota 5ft front mount blower. It shears off under light load on occasion for no real good reason. The shear bolt is Kubota part number 70060-01074. It should be a 1/4 NC x 1 1/4 grade 8 with stover nut. I have read many items where this bolt is shearing off with no solution. I decided to take a serious look at my blower and found two issues. First a serious check reveals that no bearings or no parts are bent twisted or binding in any way. I found first that the front augers were not set correctly in that they were in sync delivering snow to the secondary thrower in bunches. I corrected this as per the manual by rotating one auger 180 degrees. This did not correct the shearing but it did help. The problem I think is caused by the link in the drive chain. Once the chain is set to the correct tension the unit spins free until the connecting link gets to the gear. At that point there is a slight bind. Again there is no bend twist or any damage to the gears. The space between the chain links is constant as you would expect except for the joining link. It is about 1/16 inch larger. This is causing the bind and in my opinion causing the bolt to shear. If anyone is experiencing this 1/4 inch bolt shear please comment.
