When I was in (small) grade school,...one day,.... when we had snow on the ground, (to pack as ice) the principal would have the 8th grade boys churn ice cream, for us all to to enjoy after our school lunch.
It was always a very exciting day.

Pack and churn? At my (small) grade school the schoolmarm let us scoop snow up in a bowl,add whole milk,sugar and vanilla,stir and eat.

Our school actually had maybe 5 hand turned churns, just for this once a year occasion.
