B2530 rear seal replacement - is it a dealer job?

Hi all,

New to this forum so please be gentle

I have a B2530 which has leaky seals on the front and rear axles. The front looks like a big job so I will tackle the rear first.

From my reading on this forum with similar models it appears that the seals are just pull out and slide the new ones in. Am I missing something fundamental or is this a job that a relatively handy person could achieve?

I would think the steps would be:
1) Jack up rear and place on axle stands. Remove wheel.
2) Clean axle shaft so that I don't put dirt into the seal when sliding new one on
3) Pry off old seal - how?
4) Is it necessary to remove anything else?
5) Slide new seal into place and tap gently, hoping I haven't broken anything.

Any hints or tips gratefully appreciated.

You Need the WSM (aka service manual)

Changing the rear axle seal is not going to be quite that simple.
It requires you to disassemble the rear axle housing.
You jack up the tractor, remove the rear wheel, unbolt and remove the axle housing, remove the snap ring remove the gears, pull axle out, knock seal out, then reassemble.

Ah, so it's not a pry out from the outside of the axle casing then?

Re pulling the bearing out, is there a preference for a tool to do this or just luck?

It is but you'll need to remove the axle first, so it will require you to remove the housing first.

No special tools needed, and no bearings to pull out.

Ok, I think I've got you. The WSM gives the whole rundown on how to disassemble the rear axle but if I understand correctly all I want to do is get the axle and oil seal out...and I guess the axle is only really held in place by the snap ring (outside of the gears obviously).
