Here is my original post.... wait till you see what I found...
My trusty B2410 HSD currently has over time become stiff and sluggish. It does not center in neutral for crap... Any thoughts BEFORE I get up close and personal with it? My tractor has almost (drum roll please) 2000 hours! Looking forward to your all's two cents!
I put her up on jack stands... the bending over crap won't cut it at my age (68) I pulled the rear right tire, removed the right side foot board, cleaned and washed down and lubed all linkages. still stiff like metal on metal. I knew there was a small sealed bearing that rode a a cam that activated the HSD transmission. The seal shields were off. There were zero bearings in the inner and outer races. That was the problem!!! Even with what I had removed you could see it but there was no way in hell to get to it inside the frame and adjacent to the tranny. After pondering splitting the tractor about 30 seconds I looked for other options. The solution was simple.... center a drill bit over the center of the spindle shaft of the bearing and use a hole saw to cut a 1.25" hole directly over the bearing that was held in place with a snap ring. To do it right and get the hand drill in the proper position I REALLY had to dismantle my baby... I did it.... exposed the bearing, had the snap ring off in 30 seconds and all but the inner race fell off in my hand. Problem.... and head scratching time... the inner race was inside the plane of the frame and seized. I did not want to beat, scratch, pull and pry on something so important so.... I went low tech. I got my granddaughter's Dremel tool and a 1/2" x 3/16" thick diamond wheel... I sat in my lawn chair and carefully ground away at the inner race.... 15 minutes and it popped apart.... SWEET!
Replaced the bearing in 10 minutes.... reassembled 1/2 day.... baby is running perfect! Merry Christmas BUTCH... why... a Kubota shop quoted me a slow season price of $1900 PLUS any parts they felt they needed.
The bearing at Kubota's inflated price $22... I'd say it was worth my time.
Scope out my pics... The bearing... look under the water bottle on the side...
