so i want to upgrade to a bigger tractor, from a BX, so i have more capability around my 10 acres. the BX is great, but im realizing what else i could be doing and getting stuff done faster with something bigger. ive only had the BX since this past feb. i knowm kinda soon but it was my first tractor. i will be using this tractor just like i did my BX, mowing my yard(84 inch 3 point mower), continue building my range, clearing the goat poo ect. i also want to ability to carry round bales on the FEL, so i want to beable to do heavy lifting if need be.

ive called 3 dealers on qutoes, ive had them tell me the 4701 will lift round bales, from the FEL, fine. i just spoke with another dealer saying the 4701 might struggle and to go with the MX4800 because it was only $900 dollars more. the 4800 is a bigger tractor. i want something powerful enough to do heavy lifting, like round bales, but still have some maneuverability. turn radious looks the same and the HP difference between the two is slim.

i only have a few tight places on my property and not many trees. this is my first time doing all of this and i know $900 isnt that big of a difference but is it worth the few extra horses and bigger tractor? and can the L4701 lift a 1500# 1800# round bale? i had 3 other dealers tell me yes no problem and this dealer kinda cring when i said i wanted to lift round bales. and suggestions?

go drive both. if round bales is your biggest thing, I think the 4701 will be fine. funny how round bales up there are so heavy. down here maybe 700-800 lbs. they are different animals. I liked the MX more than the standard L due to more room behind the wheel, or at least perceived. go drive both, weigh your options. I haven't heard of anyone unhappy with their standard L or MX tractor. only complaints are typically power, and with either you'll have plenty.

that is my next step is a test drive. I havnt had time to do it yet, so ive been doing nothing but searching the web on these machines. ive seen the specs on the loaders and the 4800 spanks the 4701 basically. that may be the deciding factor since there is a 900$ difference. I didn't know if anyone on here has tried both machines yet? that have more experience with tractors.

The higher loader specs of the MX4800 for only $900 is a no-brainer!

Also how much heavier is the MX4800? That would be a bonus.

MX is a little over 400 lbs heavier HST to HST
about same 3 point lift....
1065 to 765 MX has 300 kilo lifting capacity more give or take. like 700 lbs I believe.
turning radius is the same
MX is 7 inches wider....more stability
MX ROPS is 4 inches taller give or take.
2 inch longer wheelbase to the MX.
MX hydraulic pump is 9.5 GPM L is 7.8. enough to make a difference in hydraulic performance and implements
MX is 1.2 more hp on PTO.

to me 900$ more, go the MX, there are several advantages I can see worth the 900$

im think im leaning toward the MX. my local dealer has a 4701 im going to look at tomorrow. the dealer at the inlaws has the MX but no 4701, so I cant compare side by side. I wont be able to try that one out till Saturday.

let us know on your thoughts after using each and how your decision goes. you may find the other dealer willing to drop 900$ for you to go home with it.

Are you talking about replacing the BX or just adding the second tractor?

i ll be getting rid of my BX. wanna buy it?
No thanks, I already have two. I just can't see trying to do all the things you do with your BX with the size tractor you are considering. I had an L5030 and now L5740 with a finish mower and no way would I regularly mow my yard with it. I have mowed it a few times, but it's just not practical at least for me.

i don't have a lot of stuff in my yard. i have a good amount of space to move around. might be a few tight spots.

Me too, when we built our house twenty-one years ago it was in an open field on our farm surrounded on three sides by woods so we had no obstructions around which to mow. I've actually mowed it with a CX80 and 96" RFM. For the first few years we mowed with a combination of riding mower and Ford 600 with RFM. It just didn't work well for us due to soil compaction, ruts or mowing only when moisture was really low, so we bought our first BX and kept the tractor in the fields, dams etc.

Hopefully your situation will allow success with one machine.

after viewing the 4701 and mx4800 i went with the MX. it was raining today and the dealer let me pick up some round bales with it on the FEL. not a problem. most of you will find this part funny. i noticed the handle on the right fender missing. i asked the dealer where it was, because the holes were covered with orange tape. he said "you're going to laugh, but you have to upgrade to the MX5200 to get it" LOL! he ended up taking one off another one and threw it on for me at no charge. those handles cost 50$!!!

anyway, i did have a little time with it when they got it here. it was dark so i didn't mess around to much. so far I'm impressed especially by the turn radius. the front meaty r4 tires look badarse and i believe will help add traction. i did trade the BX and went against the finishing mower. i will get me a zero turn i think. my buddy down the road does have a 3 point finishing mower so i may try that for the hell of it.

it operates just like my BX, but have the DPF emissions. there is two buttons there and forgot to have the dealer explain it to me. the manual makes it kind of confusing. it sound like i have to switch the DPF every time i start the engine, but says it does it automatically? weird.

if I remember right it will do it automatically now on the reflash. one button will postpone a regen, you can only do it a few times I believe. the other will start a regen. say it's close but hasn't started, you can manually start it before you get going. could be wrong though. I've been wrong before. nice choice.

where are the pics!? what kind of deal did they put together for you.
