Just checking to make sure, what should the voltage at the glow plugs be on a 12V system, once it goes through the dash coil indicator would it drop any?
The better check is to disconnect the wiring at each Glow plug and measure the GP resistance to ground. It should be just under 1 ohm.

Having voltage present is helpful but does not tell if the GP is burned out.

It makes a difference with how many glow plugs your engine has. As the glow indicator heats up and the GP's heat up, the circuit resistance changes and this impacts the perceived voltage you measure over time of warm up.

Depending on which engine you have. Some of them introduce a resistor into the glowplug circuit which is ENGINEERED to reduce the voltage to the GPs as they heat up. Those kind of GPs would burn-out if they received full battery-voltage once they start glowing.

My 1980's Kubota uses a glowplug-indicator which actually glows itself. This drops the voltage to the GPs as they heat up. (more heat=more resistance....basic material physics)

You say they're not working in the winter. Are you implying they are working in the summer? Maybe you're are not keeping them on long enough.

Thanks for the replies, the glow plugs are showing resistance,I was concerned about 6.3 volts at them, there not working in the winter.
Take the wires off and measure the resistance of each ....with a good VOM.

you should have a reading very close to 1 ohm.

This will tell you IF they are working - one of them out of whack can mess up everything else;)
