I'm not sure that You Tube info you have posted above is correct for Wildfire (Paul). I find him listed as "Paul Short" on You Tube.
Paul Short is "Wildfire" on OTT and 4shorts on TBN, I correspond with him regularly, great guy who did my air ride seat conversion free of charge and his wife made some really nice decals for me and my wife.

Sorry for the confusion.

Just an update, the weights I bought did not fit, so I am awaiting replacements weighing 103 pounds each.

Just got back from the dealer and found out the weights that Paul has on his tractor are only available outside the US. I have to settle for the 103 pound weights. Three sets of weights plus install kits are $1150 before shipping and taxes, ouch!!! I might have to shop a different dealer.

Just to clear things up, as it had me going for a moment too.

TBN - refers to TractorByNet not the Trinity Broadcast Network if you were to Google TBN. :D

OrangeTractorTalk= Wildfire
YouTube= Paul Short
TractorByNet= 4shorts

I guess I lead a sheltered life. I have been faithful to only one tractor site - OTT. My eyes have never strayed to another... I am now lusting to see what tractor porn they have over at TBN :D

Who knew...

I ordered two sets and I think my final price is right at $500 as we don't pay taxes and they are going to install them, I have fluid in my tires, so I didn't need three sets. My freight wasn't too high as I told them to just bring them in with a regular shipment.

I think there may be some connection between OTT and TBN as many of us belong to both and I found out about OTT from TBN; both are good sites with a lot of good information, OTT is just a bit more civil it seems though.

Did the $500 price include mounting hardware for both sets? I talked to Lone Star Weights and they priced two sets of their weights at $380 plus $100 for shipping. He said he would send a list of hardware needed since I would be able to source them locally and save the money. They make them in their own foundry and paint them any tractor color. He also said that he sells plenty to local Kubota dealers mad has not had any complaints. Anyone have any experience with this companies product?

Yes, mounting hardware was included.

No experience with the company you mentioned, but that sounds like a good price and you won't pay much for the mounting hardware.

Any update on weights from this Lonestar place? I am in the market for rear weights for my L3800 and if they are a "good to go" business/product, I'll pull the trigger.

Okay, I called Lone Star Weights and here is what thi has come to.
The model that fits my wheel is the LS301. They weigh 107lbs and cost $95 each. I can mount a maximum of 3 per wheel which would come to 642 lbs total on the rear wheels. The price with $150 shipping comes to $720. Figure in $30 for mounting hardware and we are at $750. I really wanted to get to 1000 pounds on the rear tires so I looked into Rim Guard which is basically beet juice.
It weighs 10.7 pounds per gallon. At 75% filled I can install 55 gallons per tire which comes to 588 lbs per tire. Plus I can install 12 gallons or 128 lbs in each of the front tires. The cost would come out to $3/gallon x 134 gallons = $402 plus
$150 for the guy to drive to my place and pump the juice into 4 tires, the total comes to $552.
Wel suffice it to say I am going to try the Rim Gaurd. I can down load the rear tires to 45 gallons each to get closer to my 1000 lbs rear total. And I get the steering control of the extra weight in the front tires. The cost with 90 gallons in the rear tires and 24 gallons in the front comes to $492 total installed at my door step.
The guy is coming in a couple of hours.

Kubota advises NOT to fill the front tires. I'm not sure why, but I believe it has to do with the air cushion. When you fill the front tires they become much more rigid, and it is very hard on the front axle components. I made a 260 lb front bumper for my L3200, and that seems to do fine.

My L3200 uses the loader for front weight and the dealer nicely filled the rears for free when I bought it. I haven't had any traction issues so far but have only had it in soft muddy ground thus far.

I did have it in 8th gear and at max speed down the road for a while last week, very little bounce considering filled rears.

Now, the manual is very specific about not filling the fronts.

Beet Juice is common but the hot ticket these days is RV System Antifreeze (Polypropelene Glycol). It is environmentally friendly and does not cause rust. During the late winter or early spring you can get it for about $1 a gallon at Walmart. You can also find it on line in 55 gallon drums for about $70.

I have no clue what my dealer filled the tires with but they said it was not calcium chloride as that actually is regarded as a Hazmat Material these days.

So, after calling around I found that Lonestar Weights has weights that look just like the OEM kubota weights but are 60#ea and they are $418 for 3 sets shipped to KY (360#). That's without mounting bolts, he said i could source them cheaper.

My dealer quoted me $492 carry out for 3 sets of OEM weights and they are 64# ea with the OEM bolt kit (384#). So for an extra $74 I'd get OEM Kubota weights, bolt kit and an extra 24#. I went with the Kubota weights.

I they made a notable difference in ride and traction, and seem to have made a good difference in side slope stability, which is why I got them to begin with.

Also, I bought a set of steel exercise weights for a project early in the year and have had a lot of them sitting around with no use. I got to thinking about weight down low on the tractor and what I could do with those to aid in that. I rarely use the drawbar on my tractor, so I used two 6" bolts I had laying around and bolted several of those weights to both ends of the drawbar hanging under the tractor. It lowered my ground clearance about 2" but added another 130# under the rear axle. May not help much but every little bit adds up. If I find the reduction in ground clearance an issue I'll pull them back off.

Together the weights added another 514# to the rear. :D

The guy came last week to install the beet juice. He started to let the air out and we found out the previous owner had put chloride in without using a inner tube and they where only filled half way leaving the rim exposed to air and further oxidation. Well he had to take the tires off to empty the chloride and wash everything off. The process took 2extra hours. He then filled each tire with 50 gallons of beet juice giving me a total of 1140 pounds of tire ballast. He recommended not to fill the front tires even though Kubota allows 12 gallons in each. The final bill came to $500 with new valves installed. He never charged me for the 2 hours to remove the tires and wash out the tires and wheels. He has my business for life.
The tractor drives much smother and font end loader work leaves the rear tires firmly planted.

Hello everyone,

I have a MX5100 and i need to weight down the back wheels. I am in canada so i seem to be limited to options and the few option i do have are very expensive. I am thinking about making my own wheels weights out of plate steel.

Does anyone have any photos of what the wheel weights look like and if anyone has the dimensions of a 24" wheel weight that would help me out a lot.

I believe the model number of the wheel weight that fits my tractor is LM8132

Thank you for your help
