About a month ago I bought a used L3130 (2005) equipped with an LA724 FEL. She's a beauty with just under 590 hours. I've just recently had the opportunity to go over it (and really check it out) and in the process, found that the front tires were around 30 psi. What is strange is that both the operator's manual and the FEL manual specify that the air pressure for my front tires (27 x 8.50-15, turfs) should be 12 psi. I dropped the air pressure to 15 to see how they performed and I have to admit they don't look the greatest. I'm inclined to pump them back up to something a little higher, but was wondering what everyone thought. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

If you run 12psi with turfs and loader, good luck with that! Run them high like 24psi. A loaded bucket and 12 psi and the tractor will have a jello type feel to it.

Without the loader 12 lbs would work fine. Having the loader requires more pressure. I run about 28 or 30 psi in my loader tractor.

The ply rating of the tires will make a big difference as well. My factory tires were 4 ply and from day one seemed weak. I put a set of 6 ply on last winter and it's like night and day difference. I'll never go below 6 ply again.

Pat/Bulldog,
Thanks for your replies. I'll pump them back up to at least 25 and see how it goes.
You will find that magic number after a couple of trials and tribulations!
AS said - too low and it is like turning a tank! To high and your teeth will rattle.
Too high of a PSI makes it turn well and has plenty of air for a full heavy bucket - but will be very "bouncy" going over holes and irregular surfaces. :D:)

I have the same general setup and use 20+ psi in the front tires with the bigger loader. Too low of pressure and the tire wants to role the bead when turning. It's hard to believe with the weight of the L3130 and the capability of the LA723 loader they came with 4-ply tires from the factory. 6-Ply would have been a nice addition from the start.

Ballast on the 3-pt makes a big difference in keeping weight off the front end and squishing the tires when using the FEL. If the backhoe is not on the tractor, I carry an estimated 1,100 lbs in the ballast box (mixture of steel input shafts and sand).

Isn't the rule of thumb to go about 5# less than the max printed on the tire? That is what I do for most of my equipment with the exception of low pressure tires like the ATVs, actually probably go a bit over on those.
