I just bought a used bx2350 (diesel) and mowed my grass with belly mower for the first time. The tank was full when I started and it took me about an hour to mow. when I was done I went to top of the tank and it took about 4 gallons to fill. according to the owners manual, the tank capacity is 6.6 gallons. Should 1 hour of cutting grass use that much fuel? Thanks

Keeps some records handy, I used mine the first few times and it did burn more that i thought it should - after about 20+ and now 60+ is seems like I am getting about a gal = hour. Let her break in and see?
you are running about 3000 rpm or so?

Frankly, that seems an impossible amount of fuel to burn in an hour! With my old L185, chopping down thigh-high thick grass with a 5' brush hog in 1st because it would bog down in 2nd, I still got about a gallon an hour. My L3200 using the same brush hog in the same grass, but in 3rd and 4th gears I get between 1-1/2 and 2 gallons per hour.
Is there exhaust smoke? Could you be missing a cylinder? Does it bog down easy? Is this thigh-high swamp grass?
I'd say something is wrong.

Have you considered using straight diesel with no gasoline?:)

Seriously 4 GPH of fuel sounds excessive for a 0.9L(55 CID) diesel engine. My M7040/cab 3.3L(203 CID) uses around 2 GPH depending on thickness of grass pulling a 9' disc cutter

Next time - top it off before mowing, then fill it again afterward. See if that changes the gph.

I find 4 gph hard to believe. Just guessing my BX2360 is less than 1 gph mowing.

The tanks are odd shaped; can't take the fuel gauge as gospel.

My fuel gauge lies big time !!!! I will use the tractor for hours and the gauge never moves on level ground, and then with about 3 gallons left in the tank it show about 75% full on the gauge.....
When the gauge drops near 50% - i go find fuel!:D

My BX fuel gage was so bad that I got it changed within the warranty period. Even the replacement is pretty crummy. I find a better method is looking in the fill opening. When I can't see fuel any more, it is time to fill again. As the level comes up, I find the gage says full when there still is plenty of room in the tank. It's just one of the compromises we make when opting for a small tractor with an odd shaped fuel tank.

Chalk this one up on the thread listing your complaints.

Sorry,I forgot to mention the gas gauge doesn't work. The tank was full when I started and afterwards as I said I put 4 gallons back in. When I took the gas cap off after mowing, I could see no fuel, looked dry.

Im getting about 37 mpg:D
Ok really 4 gal an hour is way to much ,, I will tell you this, when you fill the BX it will look like its full but until you have bubbles at the lower neck of the fill cap your not full. Many times I filled up and used a 5 gal can when it looked like it was about half full,, so looking down the hole is rather deceiving

4 gph is hard to swallow from a tractor that small. I can run my M9000 and L3000 combined on way less fuel than that.
