Brand New B2301 8 hours on it and it is making a weird noise after it gets warm. When I pull it out of the garage from sitting purrs like a kitten after it gets warm starts to making a grinding-whining noise, when I use the hydrostat. Any help before I send it back to the dealer is much appreciated.

A high pitched whine is normal for HST when pulling a grade or in a higher gear...... that grinding is not normal.

Is it really grinding or more or a whine?

You will find that changing the HST fluid to S-UDT2 will help with that whine;)

I tried to post a video of it but since, I am new, I cant. I may sound like a nitwit but it's like part grind, whine and vibration? if that makes any sense!

Thanks for your help!!

You cannot directly post a video on here, host it on you tube and then give us a link to it. ;)

Like Hokie said, whine is normal; but grinding, especially with vibration, doesn't sound right.

Have you checked hydraulic fluid level since new?

Several folks, including me, noticed them low after a short amount of use.

I think mine might have had some air in it. Took a quart and good to go.

This is a longer video of the noise, it seems like when the
Machine is under load, ie uphill, when the noise stops
I was on a flat and then downhill, when it starts back
Up I started up the next hill. I am not sure if this is normal but I took my Dads out for a ride and his does not make this noise.
Thanks guys.

Listened to your video.

What range are you in? In 2WD or 4WD?

B2301 has L-M-H, or just L-H?

The whine sounds normal.

Honestly, I don't think the "clattery/grind" sound is the HST, but very hard to tell....

Mower deck up or down?

PS....

Just listened a couple times more....First, I would first check fluid level like I said before.

It might be normal HST noise; it's hard to tell. Being new, I would have the dealer look at your video, but just my gut says it's okay. It seems to get noisy when there's less torque on the drive.

Be interested what some of the other BX and B owners think...

One other thing is this,,, the pump is pretty much under where you are sitting, so that a lot of noise also the ROPS is acting like a big assed tuning fork and you are right inthe middle of it

If you're going to the dealer, why not take your machine with you and let THEM drive it, and get their opinion?

Sounds normal to me, my L39 makes a similar sound, although a little less drastic. Started doing it after about 50 hours. To me it sounds like something metal vibrating (the metal radiator screen perhaps?). I***8217;d be interested in an update as to what the dealer thinks.

The HST sounds loud but normal, but I do hear some other metalic grinding, sounds like something with the mower deck, could be normal, I haven't heard a lot of them. ;)

Went to the dealer and took a B2601 and another B2301 for a ride and they both did the same thing. So I guess it's not a real problem just an annoyance. Thanks for all your help and thoughts.

Oddly, I don't think that gurgling noise you hear in the video is normal. My B2920 which is extremely similar to your 2301 would make a whine but not the gurgle.

On the other hand, if they all do the same then no worries I guess.

Does it make this sound in all transmission ranges?
