2012 Used 121 for 40,000 Canadian, or new kx033 for 55,000. 121 has 1200hrs, angle blade, thumb, steel tracks, weight 9261bs or so, around 45hp, bucket/arm force 8734/3938 traction force 9675lbs

Kx033 new, blade no angle, weighs around 7900lbs or so, around 25hp, bucket/arm 8138/3867, traction force 7938 lbs.

The kx033 is lighter, can tow with a 9900gvw trailer, and stay with f150 class truck. The kx121 I’ll have to go 1400gvw trailer move up to a f250 class truck.

Problem, current 14 f150 won’t tow either, maxes out at 9200lbs, current 7000gvw won’t work. Used to tow my wonderful little bx25d.

New and lighter (more expensive) vs older and heavier (less expensive). I do have a line on a used 08 diesel in very good condition, plus the owner of the kx121 has a trailer to go with it for an extra 4000.

I love new, the kx033 will be better on fuel, not really fussy about heavier truck and trailer.

Saving 15,000 buy 121, trade current truck for diesel, maybe 0.0in difference, buy trailer with 121 for 4,000 extra.
Or buy new spend 15,000 more, no interest, get newer truck 20,000, buy new trailer 5,000
Thoughts?

Can you / will you, work on your own equipment when it needs work?

If you answer yes then the KX-121-3 hands down as you will not be able to work on much of the KX-033-4, too much emissions equipment to deal with.

Big difference between 45hp and 25hp. And sounds like you need a new trailer and truck either way, so other than needing to go up to F250 class, it's a wash.

Question is whether you need 45hp. If you do, then get the bigger/older machine. If you don't, then newer machine is better. Also there's (to me) a big difference between $40K and $55K. Are there second hand Kx033's around? Not familiar with the model to know how old it is. If you could find one for circa $45K, then best of both worlds.

The kx033 is 24.5hp. It doesn’t have the emissions, it’s teir 4, I will be able to work on it. It looks like Kubota at least for some of the excavators is going with smaller engines and bigger improved hydrolics. I haven’t made up my mind yet, the newer one is my fav, because it’s a little smaller, has the diverter valve tech which can be controlled by a valve, a little lighter and smaller means better access. 15 thousand is a big difference to most, that includes me. I have a 14 f150 eco boost, just did all the breaks and bought a Ford extended warranty, I hate to trade it up. However there is the u27, which is a nice machine weighing in at 5700lbs, this I could keep my truck.

After renting mini’s in the past I always was glad to park it, probably because I was rushing and didn’t take time to enjoy the machine.

What tasks are you using the mini ex for? Also just a suggestion to be sure on the trailer/tow weights. if the 033 is 7900# + fluids + bucket that might be 8500# If trailer is 9900# GVWR you have to include weight of trailer. So you could only have a 1400# trailer. Just an example you will have to get exact weights but you get my meaning :)
