This is a small (big) project that me and a friend of mine we started some time ago,
it has start with parts that we found for free, and later a full rebuild has been made to the engine, pump, hydraulics etc...
caterpillar hydraulic pump and hydraulics,
homemade tanks,
Opel 1.8 diesel engine belt drive the pump at half the engine speed,
Toyota radiator and hand made hydraulic cooler,
custom electrics.
Opel axle and Toyota rims and a lot of other small parts..

i will upload a small video later today.
i hope its a wannabe machine...
my small Kubota is like a dog happy when it carries the splitter and they go for work..

That is excellent work! With that engine, it ought to split the tree!!!!

I am curious what the fuel rate per hour is gonna be at 50% - it ought to have plenty of umf!

Nice, a lot of thought went into your parts assembly. How long of log can it split? Why did you have the line from the tank to the pump plumbed around the valve.... to keep a hose away from the engine?

Awesome job!

That is one monster splitter!!! GREAT use of available parts.

Good for you!

Very cool! Just need to get a belt drive to a transaxle and a couple more wheels and you can drive it to the wood!

thanks...
the fuel its very low because the engine works at low 1200 rpms for the pump to be at its full flow, but to say the truth i haven measure it, because it started like a hobby and then became a project.

the cycle is fast, i have i small night video that i upload right now at youtube.
this thing some times when i rev the engine it scares even me.
2 times i have destroy the knife at the end, it is just unstoppable at 4000rpm.

but i work it as you will hear near the idle speed.

@D2Cat i forgot to answer,
it can handle almost 1,1 meters and as for the hoses i have reroute them like this because even new they were free so i made the best of it with what i had, and the feed hose is like that for easy access to the drive belts..

Very impressive! It seems, by your description and the video, that it is almost too powerful for the build- you need to be careful with it.

yes i know its a little bit overkill but when we started it was just a bolt on game of free parts..

VERY nice work. It might have taken some time to build but you have something to be proud of. :)

Great design and project!

One suggestion, that 1.8l likely has plenty of hp/tq even at idle...rather than revving it up and running the belt reduction at 50%...why don't you flip it the other way and make it an overdrive? Eg. run the pump at 2x engine rpm. Then you can idle the motor, have fast cycle times, and you will lose just a bit of mechanical advantage so you don't blow the whole splitter up (do you have a pressure relief by the way?).

Engine gets big pulley and pump gets small pulley.
Engine at 1000 rpms will run pump at 2000.
Pressure relief regulates maximum working pressure.
