You want to add the filter on the suction line not the pressure line. ;)
It's the large line that feeds the pump.
It's ok to use a simple clamp type fittings, but you need to use heavy suction rated hose as normal rubber hose will collapse under the vacuum.

Measure the exterior of the pipe and get hose and filter base that will meet these requirements.

Example such as: 1" suction line requires a filter with at least 1" in and out ports any less will restrict flow and cause multiple issues.

Surplus supply should have what you need.

I added a large Donaldson hydraulic filter to my previous L3410 on the line going to (or from?) the cooler.
