L2501 50hr PM Questio

Hello,

Just completed the 50hr maintenance. My question is on my hst fluid level I’m having a hard time confirming. When I was filling it back up I was careful to watch the sight glass but I never saw it. So I kept filling. Long story short I’m almost at 7 gals of fluid. The required is 6.2gals. I put in a bore scope though the fill hole and the level is definitely above where it should be.(see attached photo) Question is being slightly higher now then the sign glass am I going to damage my tractor if I use it? I turned it on went down my drive way in different gears and articulated the backhoe and FEL and checked the level. It’s still past the sight glass. Any info?

Drain some out till it's in the window!

Yeah I know I can but the way to drain the fluid has only a large plug on the bottom. Not really a precise way to remove the oil. Plus it’s only me trying to watch and drain.

Drain some from one of the small drain plugs on the final drives.

I really disliked the sight glass on my 2501. Sometimes it was right on, sometimes you couldn't see anything. The hydraulic fluid is really clear, and can make it difficult to see most times. When I did my 50 Hr service, I had the same issue, but using my Fluid Evacuator really made correcting the issue easy.

My 3901 has a dipstick, and I much prefer that over the sight glass. I don't know if running it a little over full will damage anything, but I wouldn't chance it.

Sounds like OP has about a gallon over. How much over is it okay to operate, how precise do you have to be? My B2650 was showing low on the dip stick so I put about a quart or so in and now it is up on the stick to the full mark at times and maybe a little over when hot.

I did the same thing. I was able to take the site glass out and catch the oil in a clean pan and save it. Just be careful when you screw the glass in it is plastic

Might consider using a fluid dye to make it easier to see. Here's one suggestion https://www.hartvilletool.com/product/9836/john-deere-parts-lubricants

This type of "suction gun" works well, but can be a bit messy. Bought mine at tractor supply. It's a handy tool and the length of rubber hose can be increased if needed. Here's a link https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/workforce-heavy-duty-suction-gun-16-oz-capacity?rfk=1

OK, I guess I need to double check things then. I have a what I think a small hydro leaf on my loader. I looked at the spyglass and didn't see fluid. I added 2 full gallons a 1/2 gallon at a time and still didn't see it on the bubble. I thought it would be east to see so I may have overfilled it. Is there a way to check the level besides the spy glass?

Easy way. Remove the window, with a drain pan under the tractor. It will drain down until it's at the bottom of the window, then reinstall it. Might have to add a little to bring it back to the middle of the glass.
