I am curious if anyone has ever actually measured the amount of oil, especially hydraulic oil, that drains out compared to what you know is at capacity before draining. How much residual oil will still not be drained. In other words, if your system capacity is 7.3 gallons and via the sight glass, you know that with a little plus or minus, you have 7.3 gallons in it. Now you drain everything, how much comes out?

The reason I'm asking is that I am trying to see if I can get by with changing the Hyd. system (7.3 gal.) and the front axle (4.8 qts.) with one 5 gal. & one 2½ gal. container, rather than two 5 gal. buckets. I am not trying to save a buck, just getting tired of having a little of this and a little of that left over, which usually just gathers dust, takes up space, and is usually forgotten about.

Well, apparently no one has compared, what comes out from what goes in. Logic says that there is some oil that doesn't drain, but again my curiosity never has been the same as most. I'll just have to solve my own mystery, I guess.

When i serviced the transmission on mine, i drained almost 10 gallons:eek: it tooK 7 gallons to over fill it, and ended up letting it run out the site plug for a couple minutes. Tranny has a small leak in the wheel seal. Previous owner would just add a little oil with out checking first.

Calls for 4 quarts on the motor and takes about 3 1/2 to fill it too the line

Well, I found the answer, quite by mistake, from a series of videos that I thought would be good to past on. A series of three well done videos showing Engine, Hyd., and Front Axle fluid changes. And he did a comparison of what came out to what was supposed to go in.

And best of all, it was done on the same tractor as mine, except mine is a geared transmission.
