I went to a game management meeting the other night and won a 7MM 08. I intend to mount a Zeiss Conquest HD5 3-15x50mm Riflescope on it. I seem to be having a hard time finding Zeiss Riflescope Mounts, Rings & Bases for it. Most I have found are in the $150 to $200 dollar range. Do I need to spend that kind of money for a scope mount when pretty much all it will be used for are wild hogs and south Texas deer which are not much bigger than Rabbits. That's more money than I spent for my 1st Remington model 700 Rife with a Weaver scope back in the 60ies which is still doing all I ask of it. This is shell shock for me to say the least.

Talley rings. All I use anymore.

That is a 4500 buck custom built (Pierce Engineering) 308. Shoots sub-sub moa at 200 yards every day. Weighs 8 pounds, scoped and loaded. It's done some out west and local killing.

Sorry, but I have to ask. Why would you buy a higher end scope and then cheap out on the mounts?

The scope is only as good as its attachment to the rifle.

Myself, I like Vortex Vipers or Swarovski scopes myself. The early Vipers are better than the current models, They have LOE glass. Swarvoski is always expensive but worth the cost.

Everything in Talley rings of course. Hand lapped and aligned.

My typical scope cost is 1300 bucks and just paid 2800 for a pair of Swarvoski EL Range bino's in 10 x 40.

I never cheap out on anything when it comes to hunting.

I'm not familiar with zeiss rings but I have trouble figuring out how they're worth 2 bills. I'm with Flip about the Tally light weights. They are well designed and built. Last set I bought ran about 50 bucks. I'm not a fan of objective lenses that big but it's your call. If I need it brighter I turn the magnification down.

Been playing the long range rifle game for years and I know Bruce Talley personally. You can order Talley rings direct online and they ship next day.

Every stick I own wears Talley rings.

As an aside I just pulled a Gila Elk hunt, unit 16 which is the premier Elk unit in New Mexico. 350" bulls are the norm. I'm taking my 308 and my 338 Lapua. 308 under 400 yards, 338 Lapua over 400 out to 1500 yards.

168 Bergers in Lapua brass for the 308, 250 grain Lapua Scenars in Lapua brass for the 338.

Life is good. Good to be alive.

250 bucks for that die set.

This is what I use for close range hunting and maybe Moose this year too....

460 XVR Smith with 300 grain Swift A Frames in Starline brass. Pack a punch. Good to 150 yards.
