Have been having this issue a few years. Have read lots on 3 point drift. When the attachment drops the lever goes down also. I have replaced the Piston seal two times now and honed the cylinder. Adjusting the drop valve dosent let the 3 point drop past halfway to the lockside. 3 point drops with or without a attachment on. It drops with or without the tractor running. Out of ideals.

That's telling me the lever linkage is too loose thus letting the three point drop.

Or it could be the feedback linkage is maladjusted as that will affect operations.

The lever goes straight into the control valve. There is a linkage off the top arm that also goes into the control valve. It has a jam nut and I don't feel any slop.

Do you have the WSM?
It explains how to adjust the Valve and linkage.

Adapter to check hydraulic system pressure?

You can make your own.

Do you have a loader on it?

Perhaps I read the article wrong and this has nothing to do with the 3 point dropping. But yes I have a loader.
The reason I ask, is equipped with a loader, you can simply test the hydraulic pressure there, without any fancy adapters, system pressure is system pressure and it will tell you what the relief valve is set at. ;)

I adjusted to linkagae to the lift arm a bit. The second part of the test asks you to raise the loft arm all the way up. Then manually lift it. I can't do this. It maxes out the lift with 3/4 of a inch to go still on the lever. When the lever drops it feels like a spring pulling it down.

That is bad, it's over running the lift.

You want to adjust it so when the lever is at max lift there will be still a very slight manual lift available, that way when maxed it's just not still trying to lift. ;)

Do I need to take the lift arms off and reposition them?
No,you can't do that, you need to adjust the feedback linkage so it stops feeding the three point fluid when it's in the uppermost position.
