Today, I saw a Kubota walk behind lawn mower at my dealer.

It had a 179CC recoil start Kawasaki engine with a replaceable oil filter, cast aluminum deck, and three speed transmission for the RWD. Truly a premium unit aside from the recoil start.

It had been special ordered for a customer. The salesman told me that the retail price was over $1,400. Buyer paid closer to $1,300.

Wow!

Nice lawn mower but who pays $1,300 for a walk behind lawn mower?

Someone with more money than sense...

Kowalski engines are good motors. Have one on my CC 60" tank. Other than changing the oil every fall and adjusting the valves, it runs like a top and has for over 10 years, maybe 15. Cannot quite remember when I bought it...lol The Hydro gear transmission have been trouble free too and unlike Kubota hyrdo stat's the Hydro gear's take ordinary 15-40 motor oil. Same as the Kowalski.

I’ll bet that 1300 dollar mower outlasts three or four 350 dollar cheapo stamped steel paper thin deck Chinese motored pos walk behind “mowers” for sale at the orange or blue stores.

I wonder who makes the smaller homeowner Kubota push mowers they just released again?

I have a John Deere JS48 and it is a Snapper with Deere decals.

Who knows.

I have a Craftsman walk behind that I've been using to trim after mowing with my B1750HST with 60" MMM. Each trim job takes about one hour and I bought the mower in 2003.

Still going strong and showing no signs of giving up.

It does get good maintenance and no abuse. Still not bad for a Craftsman with early OHV B & S engine.

The one that I saw today is a small (self propelled) push mower either 21 or 22 inch cut.

One would think that for $1,300 it should have electric start.

About 10 years ago i had a Kubota W5020 push mower. I went to the local kubota dealer to get a couple of parts and the parts guy told me Kubota never made such a mower. I described it to him, the gas engine, self propelled. Nope, didn't ever make a gasoline push mower. Finally, the owner came out, and after quite a bit or research they both apologized and ordered the part!

It's a 21" walk behind kubota mower, with 180cc 5.5hp Kawasaki engine. Saw it the other day at my kubota dealer. Started up 1st pull and was an extremely light weight mower. All aluminum deck. Don't think it needs an electric start. Definitely made for an upscale home owner.

You mean that price is for the small 21 inch? I thought you were talking about that big new stand on mower. I wonder how much that would be!

I thought Deere was bad. My JS48 was $500 list but my dealer gave it to me at his cost.

I like the electric start but I've already had to replace that tiny battery and it was $80.00 and that was from a battery store. Deere wanted quite a bit more for it.

That’s the mower my mind went to when I saw this threads title. Lol

Those sure were beasts. When the self propelled was engaged, you better hold on.

My first Honda walk behind was 25 years old when I gave it away, still ran perfectly but the BBC clutch was not working properly anymore.

I was not implying that it needs electric start, only that at $1,300 it shold have all of the bells and whistles.

I have a Craftsman AWD 22" walk behind mower with electric start that I bought 2 or 3 years ago. It listed for about $550 but I bought it for less than $300 because it was mis-marked.
