I've located an L4240, 4x4, HST, FEL with 450 hours (about 4 hours away), have only seen some poor quality of photos. I'm considering upgrading from my L3800 4x4, HST, FEL (250 hrs) to this tractor, and keep my out of pocket expense reasonable ($3-4,000 ???)

Pricing and advice on the 4240 would be greatly appreciated.

Wendol, I have an L4240 just like you describe but with 778 hrs now. What your looking at will probably be in the range of $18,000-$19,500. The price of the ..40 series tractors have actually gone up in the last couple of years. I keep an eye out for them and when they are listed on CL they usually are gone pretty quick.

When I bought mine 2 years ago I looked for about 6 months. Found one North of me, but I hesitated too long. The day I called the dealership to tell them I was coming up, he told the he just sold it. Found one a month later in Jackson, TN. Bought it based on the pictures the dealer sent, negotiated on price, and had an independent guy haul it to me. I never went to actually see it.

After talking to the salesman, getting the previous owner's phone number and talking to him about service and reason for selling I felt comfortable with it. I also asked the salesman to take picture of any thing that would make a very particular wife ask, "Why'd you buy this?".

They did good by me. Byrd Implement in Jackson, TN.!

You will like the tractor in my opinion. Nice seat with armrest, handle on right fender, adjustable links, features like hydro dual speed (where you can move a lever on the left side of the steering wheel to go from fast to slow with the flick of a switch). auto throttle advance lever, stall guard, and a bunch more!

Can't help much with real prices on an open station but my new-to-me L4240HSTC was purchased in December of 2018 and had 900-some hours on it. It replaces an L3200HST with a DIY cab. It's a whole lot beefier all around than the L3200 and the comfort level is way better. It has the HST+ trans and love it even though I haven't put a lot of hours on it so far.

From what I was able to find while considering this model, there was one flaw that was mentioned by several owners. That is a leaky seal on the input shaft. Kubota had a record of fixing mine at around 80 hours, so I'm considering it OK. I believe that Kubota used different seals when fixing these.

We were cheated on the snow this year. There was just enough to get familiar with the new plow setup. Now it's time to look ahead to mowing and hope for more snow next Winter!

Thanks for all the responses.

FWIW this tractor just didn't appear to have been maintained as it should......so.........the search continues.

I am confident the 40 series is what I need.

As your looking be aware there two loaders offered with that model. The LA854 is the heavier duty one. Also, some might have cast iron rear wheels for added weight. Both are nice features.
