New to this forum but with an age old question: Which tractor would be best for me? We just purchased 65 acres that we are going to build a hobby horse farm on. Up until last year it was part of a functioning golf course. We are going to use 20+ acres for house/barns/pastures. The rest will be used for trail riding and recreation but will require maintenance. I foresee using the Kubota mostly for mowing/bush hogging, pushing dirt, moving hay. I have three options that I am currently looking at:

1. 2016 L3901 - used
2. 2017 L4060 with cab - new
3. 2013 L5240 with cab - used

Which one(s) would work best. Thanks for your insights.

I would tell you to consider the hours on the unit but most importantly the level of competence of the individual who performed the scheduled maintenance and was the required grade / quality lubricants used during the service ? Those are very critical to know when making your purchase decision. With no service history..I would tell you to be very , very careful.

These tractors on horse farms are a godsend for raking manure and hauling a spreader, and mowing the pastures. But before you choose, decide if the height and width of a cabbed tractor will fit under run in sheds or down the aisles of a main barn etc. If moving hay, weight of tractor is important but all three of the ones you are looking at should work.

I guess like most you want the best deal you can get for your needs but what is your budget?

Is a cab required, I live in NC and to me a cab would in the way for my uses.

I have an L3901 and an M7040. I really like the L39 for light duty tasks such as mowing and moving light materials. For dirt moving and dealing with round hay bales, it's too light. From the list you gave, I would choose the 5140 or something even larger.

L3901 has 100 hours and cost $18k with FEL
L4060 is new and cost $26k with FEL and finishing mower
L5240 has 86 hours and selling for $36k with FEL

I am really leaning toward the L5240.
