What is the secret to removing the fuel cam shaft on a V1702 engine? There is a snap ring on each end holding the gears, but neither gear will slide off? Any help would be appreciated.

There is a keeper bolted to the front of the block.

Is it a V1702 DI (direct injection) or a V1702 IDI (indirect injection)?
I have parts for sale for the IDI engine if you need something.

I have removed the front keeper. The problem is the rear gear. I have removed the rear gear snap ring and it looks like it should slide off of the shaft however, each of the shaft's splines have a lip on them, preventing the shaft from sliding off? What am I missing here? Thanks.

The whole assembly comes out the front, then the bearing will come off of the cam.
Give it a gentle tap forward and the gear should come right off too.
You will not get the front gear off it will stay stuck to the cam shaft.

I have attached a photo (I think) of the rear gear that shows the small lip on each of the splines of the shaft. I have tried to push the shaft through the gear, but the lips on the splines will not let it go through, even after a few hammer blows. It appears that the only way it will come off is if a grind down the ends of the splines, which doesn't make any sense, as this would ruin the shaft. It only makes sense as you describe that the shaft comes out through the front of the block, but again, it will not go through the rear gear. Thank very much for your help.....if I take the bare block to the metal salvage yard, the fuel cam and shaft may have to go with it.

I have completely parted out the engine, as it was on a "parts" tractor I purchased. Do you think the engine parts are worth anything? I have a few on EBAY right now, with little or no interest so far....thanks again for your help.

Yea I have a complete V1702 IDI in parts too, not much interest in that one either.

What was wrong with your engine that you need to part it out?

The previous owner left the tractor outside for several years and the pistons were rusted in. I guess I will just keep the salvageable parts for my tractor which also has the same engine.

I need to know what tractor it was in or if it's a IDI or a DI engine, I know someone that wants a DI crank. ;)
