Back in 2000 my mom and I were sitting with my dad waiting for him to go back for quad bypass, he calls me over says if something happens to me you get John and your brother gets the truck...
I smiled told him he would be fine but that I thought he was being a bit unfair my brother was to get his brand new Chevy 4WD pickup and I was to get my grandfathers 1948 John Deere M... that was sitting in my dad’s barn split in half and in million pieces as he was about a month into a full working tractor restoration.
I pointed out he couldn’t die until he put it back together, he laughed and said OK and off he went smiling.
He got it all put back together, painted and used it for a good while longer gardening on my grandfather’s old farm.
John has been mine since 2013, had to replace the coil and related ignition parts this year, never feel closer to my dad and grandpa than when I work on it or use it on my grandpa’s farm.
