What model is it?

And yes too much for a 2wd with a loader and no Power steering (pretty much a worthless combination). ;)

I'd say more like $3500. Without 4wd, the tractor is helpless without a lot of counter weight.

Bill you need a bigger tractor for a project. Then when you have it finished you'll a choice of which one to do the task.

Come to think of it, I have an L3250, 4x4, needs a crankshaft. It's a V1902, 40 HP direct injection, no 3pt linkage, GST. Body is ugly, tires hold air but need replaced 13.6x 24 rear, and 8x16 front. Has new alt. It's right up your alley!! Orange Tractor Talks special 1K.:D

L225's are odd balls.
They have parts and motor that is specific to it, and getting very hard to get parts for that model, yes even worse than the L1500's, and L1501's.

They are not grey's but they are rare and odd.

Okay, so having said all that (not exactly what I wanted to hear BTW) any idea what YOU think one of these would be worth assuming it is in good running and operating condition?

I have an L1501 and would really like a loader. Yup its 2wd and i would manage. Try a 1952 cockshutt 40 with a loader, its like driving a bus. Just need an acre to turn it around.
5500 is steep. US Dollars is out of my realm but i wouldnt drop a penny over 3500 canadian pesos for it. My lil machine with 780 (iirc) hours was 2500,if i could find a loader for 1000 id do it

Well that would be about 2631 and some change US, I don't even want the loader. Hell I was thinking 1100 maybe 1500 tops just for the tractor, maybe I just got too good of a deal for my L1500, with a loader, bush hog, rear blade, rear box blade, forks, drawbar with a 2-inch ball.

I'd buy it if you were closer to NY.

I don't think I would buy any tractor that required ether to get it started, unless it was for parts.

That indicates the owner doesn't understand how the tractor should start, and what can happen especially if the ether is sprayed without the engine turning over as it's sprayed.

There's problems in there that are being overlooked, and passed on to the buyer (who may thing he's getting an OK tractor).

The price becomes irrelevant!

Definitely a do not buy with the ether starting method. Buddy of mine burned his up moving the tractor with ether...what a mess.
