L2501 acts like it's starving for fuel

Hi all I have a 2501 with 65 hours on it. And today after ruining it for about an hour. It started missing really bad if you were above 1700 rpm. So I thought maybe I got bad fuel changed the fuel filter ran like a champ for about 30 min and started it again. Any thoughts on what it could be

going to have to take it to the dealer. there is no OBD11 diagnostic ports to retrieve data from the computer or any way to monitor sensors in real time or data log. i think all computer controlled engines should have OBD ports like the auto industry

When the missing starts, open the fuel cap and see if it clears up. The cap vent may be clogged. About the only other thing you may have caused in that short time is bad fuel or trash in the fuel.

Ok I will try that. And it seems to worse after it gets warm runs great when the first 15 min and it only does it when it's under a load

There isn't any computer on a L2501 so this one will come down to plain old mechanicin"!

On this one my bet is a failed lift pump. (lever broken so not moving the diaphram) I've run into it a few times on those engines.

huh, i was wrong about the computer after looking at the parts diagram. there must be a different emissions standard for that hp because the Kubota web site says that it meets tier4

i bought the wrong tractor, when i was talking to the salesman about the l series i was under the impression that they where all computer controlled

They "detuned" the L engine to 25hp mostly by reducing it's rpm. You could get the HP back by revving it up again but they changed the PTO ratio so you would have a tractor with a very fast PTO! The transmission ratio is the same as the L3301 so the L2501 travels slower. ( you could change the PTO gears to get the RPM where you wanted it though) The L2501 really is a sleeper!

I didn't drain the tank but I cut the old filter and it looked pretty clean. I just let the tractor sit for about 2 hours went out ran great for 20 min then started again. And yes this is all mechanical no computer and yes you can get more horse power by turning up the RMP's. The deal said they can't get it in for a few days but they said the have another 2501 in the shop now that is acting kinda the same way they are gonna call Monday after they look into that one. I also opened the fuel cap when it started and didn't change anything.

Tier IV is a standard. It varies with the hp and the type of vehicle. How the manufacturer meets that standard is up to them. So there are a bunch of different strategies for getting the emissions down to the appropriate level. Some use a dpf filter and some of the smaller engines have met the standard with modifications of the injection system etc. So you could at least theoretically have computer controlled injection without a dpf filter. Best source of info for a particular tractor is in the WSM. That combined with the parts diagram makes it possible to figure out how your engine works.

Tier 4 engines-above 25.0hp-need to have a DPF to meet the standards set forth by the US EPA. The EPA doesn't care how a manufacturer meets the standard, they just care that it DOES meet the standard. Currently, the DPF is the least invasive way to meet those standards (on 25hp+).

The L2501 is 24.8hp IIRC. Barely below the threshold; so DPF not required. It meets <25hp standards without the DPF.

"Tier 4" just another "tier" of the whole emissions debacle, IIRC, part of the clean air act of 1990. I am hearing there may be a tier 5.......

you will still have the DPF and have to go through the regen cycle, my tractor has 70 hours now (ABOUT10 A MONTH) i fell like an idiot running my tractor at 2700 rpms just to drive to the back of my property. i would be curious to see how much more fuel that i am using compered to the 2501

The L2501 doesn't have a DPF.

Let's not ruin JD88's thread by starting another Tier 4 and DPF debate. Stick to his original question of why his tractor starts to run out of power after 20-30 minutes. Start your own thread if you want to debate emissions.

JD88, did you check your fuel flow from the tank threw the fuel filter housing? I worked on a B7500 that had junk stuck in the little valve in the filter housing that opens and closes when you change filter. At times it would run good and other times it would starve for fuel.

Yes I did and it was good I guess I will take it to the dealer if they will ever call me back. They told me that if they figure the other 2501 out they will call.
