I saw a great idea but I do not remember where I saw it. They took a ssqa plate and attached it to the side of a fuel tank. With the front end loader the tank can be moved about the farm as needed as well as loaded onto a truck and carried to the gas station. But the best part was to use the FEL to pick up the tank and let gravity move the fuel to the tractor or any other equipment.

Check with local DOT, some states have serious restrictions on Tanks or trailers with tanks.

I use a 250 Gallon side saddle tank on a skid to hold and transport my fuel, way better than small tanks!

This is my setup, bought the tank with pump off Craigslist for $100.00. Built the pump stand out of my junk pile. Have a large quick disconnect I found on eBay in the hose from the tank. Put it in my pickup to fill it and unload it with my FEL. Guess I need to paint Diesel on the tank in yellow in case I ever get stopped by ODOT.

ShortMagFan,

Your plan does seem like it would work, but I have a suggestion or two to consider.

  1. Install fuel filter
  2. Consider treating stored fuel with biocide
  3. Label tank, so gasoline isn't accidently poured into it.
  4. Make certain tank is secured to the trailer.

Good luck and report back when project is complete

That looks nice. I see the price difference vs. the one i posted. Is it really worth 50% more? Plastic better than aluminum?
I don’t know which would be better for you I was just throwing another option out there. The poly tanks are almost indestructible and they lock up nice and secure.

Have a bulk tank at the farm (1000 gallons) and I have a 110 gallon diamond plate tank in the pickup for field fueling if necessary. Don't do fuel cans here except for the lawnmowers and chainsaws.

This was my first thought as well.

I met a guy years ago with a 55 gallon drum on a 4 wheeled drum dolly. He used a DC powered fuel pump from a dump truck that he was able to connect with alligator clips to his tractor battery. I’m thinking about trying something like this, but I only need maybe 10 gallons a month if that so for now, 5 gallon cans it is.

I have mixed reviews on NT tanks. My brother and I both bought 55 gal L step tanks. Mine has been good and his had welds crack and leak. Their tanks are pretty weak for the most part.

Before I'd spend $1100 on a tank and trailer I would just get a 250 gallons bulk tank and have fuel delivered.

In the thread “Show me your refueling setup” I posted #126 my system. It’s a propane tank I installed an inlet air regulator and an exit fuel/water filter and pressurize the tank with ten lbs of shop air. (I’d post a link but this is a new iPad and this former windows-user haven’t figured out yet how to do that.)
