b7100 starter wiring

starter was stolen , wires were torn out. I have rewired as shown in shop manual but starter gets hot and wont engage. any ideas ?

mmmm.....that sucks on the stolen part and sucks on that it will not work.....
If you remove the starter and ground it and touch quickly to hot to hot, will it turn ??? DOnt hold it, it will jump!!!

stupid question.....how do you know that the "new" starter is good?

if the starter is good, something is shorting out to create the heat....

With the starter in and just the large battery cable connected, jump from that connection to the small solenoid connection, the starter should engage and crank, if it does not then you have other problems.

Are you 100% sure that something else wasn't done to the tractor?
Like water or something poured into the exhaust pipe?
