Electrical Issues

I bought a 2006 Kubota RTV 900 with electrical issues. It runs great, but they had disconnected the cable from the alternator post and when I tried to connect it back it blew the 60 amp slow blow fuse. Thinking it was the alternator I replaced it with a new alternator and the same thing keeps happening. Using a voltmeter it shows that the alternator post is negative. If you connect the voltmeter to the post of the alternator and to the positive of the battery it shows the volts of the battery instead of zeroing out. Can someone give me some direction or tell me maybe what's going on? Thank you so much for your help.

Sounds like someone ran the battery totally down and then when they put a charger on it, they connected it in reverse. Now the battery positive terminal is negative and the negative is positive. Sounds crazy, but it can happen!

Put the red lead of your meter on positive battery post and black on the negative battery post. Does your meter read -12. volts? If it does turn the lights of your RTV on and let your battery run completely flat and recharge correctly.

D2CAT AND WHITETIGER, Thank you Thank you Thank you, That does sound crazy and I never would have thought it, so I ran out there and positive to positive and negative to negative did show a - 12 volts the battery had died with the previous owner and they had recharged it. They had people to work on it and couldn't figure it out and I couldn't figure it out but yall fixed it thank you again so much.

Personally I'd put a new battery in it, once a battery has been reversed it generally doesn't perform very well and can create more problems, excessive draw on dynamo/alternator etc. YMMV

..... Using a voltmeter it shows that the alternator post is negative....
Before we get too far with this.... Are you CERTAIN that the red/black leads are plugged into the proper holes in your voltmeter?

HINT: The black goes to the voltmeter COMMON....only the red lead may move between the other plugs based on what you are measuring.

ALL voltage measurements should be done with the COMMON voltmeter lead on the battery negative post. (Use extension lead if necessary) In this way, you can ascertain any voltage-drops in the electrical system. (ie...from battery post to engine-block)

I bought a B7100 about 5 years ago that the battery had swapped polarity like yours. I turned the lights on and ran it flat. Then recharged properly. The battery lasted about 3 more years so I think I was lucky.
