I recently bought a used L2850 w/ 910 hrs. Tractor runs great but leaks small amounts of multiple fluids (fuel, hydraulic fl, crank case oil) during and just after operating it. I stripped the sheet metal, degreased, and pressure washed it to better assess the leaks for repair. in doing so, I've come across several thinks that have me scratching my head:
1. There are no fluid level check windows as indicated in the owners manual
I received w/ the tractor.
2. I cannot find a serial number for the tractor or the engine per the manual.
3. There is a "V1512-D1" stamped into the engine head but tech data shows
that my L2850 should have a "V1702-DI-A". Do I possible have a 'gray
market' tractor w/ L2850 emblems or did the previous owner replace the
engine with a different but compatable model? What did the V1512-D1
go in initially?

Any info is much appreciated.

In this case pictures are worth a thousand words.

The tractors serial # will be on the transmission not the motor.

Look for a cast in motor size behind the hydraulic pump, that will give you motor size. ;)

Thanks!
Yes, I looked for the SN on the transmission. The 'cut-out' window in the sheetmetal is there, but no SN. Local 'K' dealer says the tractor SN may have been stamped on the frame forward of the engine too, so I'll need to look there. I'll try to get some pics on here as well.

thanks again!

Thx Wolf.
Looked again and the tractor SN was on the tranny: 53213. So that means its year of mfr was 1986 best I can tell. Engine still has me stumped. Model # is V1512-DI stamped on top rear, left side of head. Front left side of head is stamped 6 06 26. The displacement is stamped on the right side of block: 1736cc which translates to 1.7L as it should based on specs. Hopefully the V1702 and V1512 have interchangeable parts.

The V1512 is a sort of a part/cast # It is not a model # there is not a V1512 engine. Don't worry about those #'s as they really don't mean a thing.
The cast in # is the only number that matters. ;)
You have a V1702 motor and that's right.

Okay, thanks. I want to go over the tractor with a torque wrench and be sure that none of the leaks are simply due to loose bolts.

Do you know of an online resource for torque specs on the 1702?

One more question: The full SN reads: L2850D - 53213. What does the 'D' signify?

If you get the tractor's WSM it will give you all the specs.
The D is for Dual traction AKA 4wd.
