So i'm looking at Messicks.com site for parts to do this block heater install.

My B8200 (D950 3cyl) has 32mm freeze plugs.
I see this freeze plug heater kit;
http://www.messicks.com/part/70000-00297/block-heater-kit

And think it will work but it doesn't list what size freeze plug hole it will fit. Can anybody advise?

Then under B8200 parts, they list this kit;
http://www.messicks.com/part/70000-73274/block-heater

It's a thread into, i'm guessing, a 3/4" NPT boss in the block or head. Problem is, i can't seem to find the spot (looking for a 17mm hex) where this would thread into, on my motor. Ideas?

On your engine the "plug" where the block heater threads in likely has a hose connected to it that goes to the bottom of the radiator. ( the plug is 1 1/4) when you get the block heater there will be a metal plug and a hose clamp with it to plug off that hose.

While I haven't yet looked at my machine, I think you might be right, going by these install instructions i found online searching this topic....

The instructions mention something about a socket that has a Kubota part #70097-EN100.
Read a few other posts through searching regarding that part# and it appears to be a unicorn item.

The freeze plug route may be the easier of the two.

http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/kubota-owning-operating/135133-b7200-block-heater-drain-pipe.html

That thread is specifically referencing a B7200 machine. The B7200 is listed in those install instructions as using the same block heater, installed in the same location as a B8200.

I wish people would follow up with some information after the fact.

Here is where the block heater threads in on a B8200 (D950 3cyl). It's located on the 'passenger side', down low by the frame rail. You can't miss where the 1/2"-5/8" coolant hose comes out of it.
As you can see, it is an odd shape with only two flats. I have to figure out a way to remove it. Any ideas? A 15/16" open end wrench will fit on the flats but there's really no way to turn the wrench, just not enough room.
Now i see why there is a Kubota part number for a special socket to remove it.

I've yet to put a block heater in that location, just a lot of work.
I like the other drive sleeve type (70000-00297) that you have listed, and yes that fits the D950, I have used several in mine and others.

Yeah, that's kind of how i'm seeing it too. Looks like it will be the easier route.

Sunex 97730 1/2-Inch Drive 15/16-Inch Jumbo Crowfoot Wrench - this wrench would possibly work for removal - I can't see how much clearance that you might have.

I've thought about that too, I just don't think theres enough room.

NIW, do you just knock one freeze plug sideways and then yank it out with some pliers? Do you have a preference of which plug you use (front or middle)?

Yep knocking them out is a little tricky but it can be done.
DO NOT DRILL the plug, the cylinder skirt will be just behind the freeze plug.
I usually pic the left side front or second one back depending on motor, Just look for the one that has a clear shot to get to it. ;)

I usually do drill a hole in them to pry them out, you just have to be sure to stop drilling once through the core-plug!!

So I'm in a bit of a pickle... The sleeve included with that part number is larger that my freeze plug and freeze plug boss. Have a look at the picture.
What to do now?
Knocking the freeze plug out was super simple. Just tapped on it with a hammer and punch until it turned sideways, then grabbed it with needle nose pliers and it came out with minimal effort

Quick solution, measure freeze plug, add sealant, replace. Get onto supplier or others to see if they can check diameter in supplied kits. Any chance they didn't machine enough off, is there lots of meat left to machine down to size? Any other bigger plugs in engine?

I'm glad i didn't destroy the freeze plug during removal. I was able to re-install it using some black RTV to help seal it up. I used some sockets of the appropriate size to expand the freeze plug enough to wear i could tap it back into the block with a tight fit.

There is quite a bit of 'meat' on the sleeve of the block heater. I'd venture to say it is twice as thick as the freeze plug i removed. Tapping it into place, just is not going to happen the way it is. The shape of the sleeve being the opposite of the freeze plug doesn't allow the sleeve to deform like the freeze plug does when it gets compressed in. Or maybe it does and i just wasn't hitting it hard enough. I'd hate to crack or chip the block trying to install this thing.

I'm trying to devise a way to chuck it into my drill press and hold some sand paper (or flapper disk) next to it to shave it down some.

The frustration!

There seams to be a mix up with the bushing part, it's not the first time I've heard of this.
There are 2 bushings one is for the 30mm kit and the other is for the 32mm kit.
Measure the freeze plug size and the adapter size, just to make sure.
You should have 30 mm freeze plugs.
And I'm betting you have the 32mm adapter (it will probably measure 32mm somewhere about 1/2 way up the taper).

If you want to send it to me I will mill it down to the right size with the right taper on a lathe.
I also have a D950 block here that I can test fit it to.
Just send me a PM and I'll give you my address.

I'll also look tomorrow and see if I have a spare one hanging around that is already the right size.

I think the only mix up here, is the part #
The instructions say the 70000-00297 kit is for a 32mm freeze plug. Then it lists all the models that it fits.... (I will PM you)

I have been beating myself up and thinking I've lost my mind.
I know that I have bought the 70000-00297 for D750's and D950's, I installed one last year.
Well after digging in and doing some serious research, I think I found out the problem.

The company that was making the drive bushing quit making them.
Another company took over, and changed dimentions just a little.
Old adapters covered a range of 30mm to 32mm, so it worked on the 30mm and 32mm freeze plugs.
New adapters cover 32mm to 35mm freeze plugs so they will not work on the old engine 30mm freeze plug setup.

So as it stands right now there is no freeze plug kit that will directly do the D650, D750, D850, or D950

There is also a 70000-17552 that works for the 25mm frost plugs.

Which is really crappy because the Kubota part# special socket needed to install the screw in block heater on the lower right side of the (D950) motor, is non-existent. "We'll sell ya the block heater but good luck getting it installed" Muahahahah /evil laugh
