Recently purchased a B7800HSD-R with loader and 560 hours on the clock. When in high gear there is a loud growling sound from the transmission area that starts after reaching speed and goes away on deceleration. Does not happen in mid and low gear. Being new to tractors it sounds ominous. Is it?

My first thought, Are you in 4wd?
There is a shield that rubs on the front drive shaft, but that is more of a squeak, and more noticeable at lower speeds.

Best thing you can do is take a video of it happening and post it on Youtube and give us a link to see/hear it. ;)

The most likely cause on a b7800 ( And other similar B tractors) Is the nylon bushing at the small end of the plastic shield covering the drive shaft to the front axle. Spray some WD40 or similar in there and see if the noise goes away. This is a common enough condition on these tractors! I usually cut off the small end of the "trumpet" including the contained nylon bushing. You can do it with side cutters without removing the shield and shaft.

Thanks for the responses to my post. Let me check each suggestion and report back. It would be easy if it were in low gear where someone could walk beside the tractor and isolate the sound to a specific area or part of the drive train. BOZ1989: It is happening while in 4WD but... I need to check to see if it exists in 2WD.

The shaft to the front axle is turning regardless whether you are in 4wd or 2wd.

I should have made it clearer, asking if it's in 4wd, and the shaft rubbing are 2 different things. Like eserv said, the shaft turns anytime the tractor moves.
I've noticed the same growl in 4wd, more at higher speed, even more so after I replaced the front tires. I'm assuming that it's the "lead" kubota designed so you can turn a corner in 4wd.
If I'm going any distance, I just switch to 2wd.
