Thanks Stubbyie, interesting but scary, especially for those of us with high pressure common rail computer controlled fuel injection systems.

Stubby, great article :)

We have three bulk vendors for diesel in or area. All three vendors had different quality fuel and you could tell.

Vendor 1 had the cheapest bulk fuel price.

Vendor 2 was in the middle.

Vendor 3 was the most expensive.

But the difference in price from lowest to highest was 10 cents per gallon

Vendor 1 did not treat there fuel. My customers would get around 100 hours and then get codes for low fuel rail pressure (clogged fuel filters).

Vendor 2 and 3 were additive dealers as well and treated there fuel. We had very few issues with clogged fuel filters and other issues if our customers used them.

The customer that used vendor 1 would get eaten alive with service calls. And actually lost more money then they saved do to having to replace fuel filters sooner plus the down time on the equipment waiting for a tech

You get what you pay for!
Try to save 50 cents per 5 gal and you end up paying more in service.

You are what you eat and the same goes for your machine!

They must like drinking the cheap pop as well!
