I would guess you didn’t get it all bled out. I would have ran it on jack stands for a while when bleeding it even after it started going (and maybe you did?) Also did you double check level after? As far as belt goes check tensioner too, unsure how it’s set up on that particular mower. Typically if it’s slipping though you would smell burnt rubber I would think.
I did run it while on the jack and checked level afterwards.
Correct me if I am wrong but I am assuming that when filling from the top, the fluid will flow from the overflow port on the front of the trans when it is full.
I have not checked the belt tensioner.
I don't smell anything from the belt

That’s what I would guess? Not familiar with how yours is set up. My case mower has a gallon or so reservoir under the hood to fill it

Well this is weird. It will run and drive for a few minutes and then stop.
If I repeat the jacking and pedal rocking, it will run again but then stop.
I have adjusted the pedal linkage in both directions with no change.

Is it full to proper level? Any chance you're foaming the fluid and cavitating the pump?

It flows out of the over flow port with no bubbles.
I have ordered a new belt as the old one is well worn now that I can see it off the tractor.

I put a new drive belt on in hopes that a worn belt was the answer...not!
It is just a beatch to purge all the air out of the hydro unit.
It took about 10 actual purges, jacking the machine up and rocking the hst pedal till the wheels began turning.
Do it again and again and again etc until it is completely bled.
The pedal travel adjustment is very precise, there is a go/no go point in the linkage adjustment that you need to hit for the F and R functions of the unit operate fully.
Took about 6 adjustments before I got it.
Now, adjusted with the new belt, it really does run better that when I got it.
