Connection of knuckle arm to drag link loose

I thought I'd post how it all turned out. You all gave great advice. I didn't have any air tools so I purchased an inexpensive set from Home Depot. The impact wrench is only good for 300 ft-lbs, but I didn't need crazy power for this job; just wanted to start with a modest investment. While I...

Connection of knuckle arm to drag link loose

Good thought on the jam nuts, but not enough thread. I'll have to have at it with the impact wrench. Good excuse to buy an impact wrench :D - I have a compressor for my nailers that will work nicely! Thanks Bill!

Connection of knuckle arm to drag link loose

Well I was able to get out there today to clear some new snow and raise the front wheels to take a look. Sure enough, the joint was not tight in the taper. The slop was in the taper, not the ball joint. However, I wasn't able to tighten it. The nut and the stud just rotated together due to rust...

Connection of knuckle arm to drag link loose

I will check the taper on knuckle to make sure it's not loose. Thanks for the advice on the welding. Definitely true on the weight on the front. I just got the tractor and there's a back hoe on it that does take weight off the front wheels. The plow is a 6' unit mounted to the bucket on the FEL...

Connection of knuckle arm to drag link loose

It's supposed to rotate as the steering mechanism (the knuckle arm) pushes forward/backward to rotate the front wheels via the drag link. I'm using the nomenclature from the parts diagram; definitely not the same terminology as an auto.

Connection of knuckle arm to drag link loose

Hi Folks, On my 2004 B7510 HST, the connection between the knuckle arm and the drag link is very sloppy. The drag link is sort of like the pitman arm on a car. The Knuckle arm comes from the steering mechanism to turn the front wheels. I have a couple of questions please: 1. Would you expect...

Adjusting the rear track width on a 7510

Wow, that only comes with experience! Frankly I had no idea what the clamping mechanism was - there's no exploded diagram in the service manual to see. One thing I need to get a feel of is how tough these tractors are. I tend to be very conservative banging on transmission/axle shafts with big...

Adjusting the rear track width on a 7510

Thanks for the idea. I'm wondering if the transmission would take that stress of trying to pull the axle shaft out with several tons of force? But you've done it, so some tractors must be tough!

Adjusting the rear track width on a 7510

Hi Folks, New to the forum here. Have a log cabin in VT, 10 acres and 1,000 feet of driveway to maintain. Brand new to tractors and just got a used 2004 7510; 320 hours, FEL, snow blade mounted to FEL crudely, backhoe, grading blade. My driveway is very steep (15% grade) and very icy. I...
