Snowblower Kubota b2782b - bolts sheared

The friction-fit of this assembly that I was relying on for this winter finally failed. Which is a good thing. I couldn't get the retaining collar to budge when I tried to get it off using two bolts in the threaded holes intended for this use. But it gradually loosened, and I was able to...

Snowblower Kubota b2782b - bolts sheared

I agree - all I can think of is maybe my shear bolts on the augers are not the correct rating and are not breaking easily enough when needed, so putting more stress than the rated amount on the bolts that hold the retainer and main sprocket together.

Snowblower Kubota b2782b - bolts sheared

Very helpful, Dave. Yes the bolts I used were stainless. I will find some grade 5 or grade 8 bolts and try again.

Snowblower Kubota b2782b - bolts sheared

Well, I put it off all summer of course. But a couple weeks ago I screwed two bolts in to the threaded holes in the collar and slowly applied pressure to each one, alternating between the two. The collar never even budged. The two bolts just eventually snapped when I applied more pressure...

    First-time snowblower operation

I think that if it is to get through some stretches of crusty / hard snow it's a great technique, and doesn't do any harm to the blower components or the hydraulics (at least not for me, and I've had to use that down pressure a lot lately). But for any long stretches of driveway or road, it's...

Snowblower Kubota b2782b - bolts sheared

Sorry for the slow update. While messing with the retainer thing, I tapped it further along the shaft towards the gear, which seems to have created enough friction to lock the gear to the shaft (maybe the key is also keeping things locked together?) and allow the auger to rotate at full rpms...

Snowblower Kubota b2782b - bolts sheared

Thanks to all of you! There are two slots in the shaft - do you think there should have been a key in both slots? Luckily, we have a short thaw happening in northern Michigan, so I won't need to do any snowblowing until later in the week. I will report back once I fix the thing.

Snowblower Kubota b2782b - bolts sheared

The bolts that pass through the retainer and attach to the large drive gear have sheared. You can see the raw, broken end of one of the bolts in the drive gear. I've been told that the two threaded holes in the retainer are for passing a couple bolts through to push the retainer away from...

No hydraulics in lift / lower function

Follow-up, one season later. I forgot to post the solution. It turns out that the pivot post that the valve control rotates on had broken off. Apparently leaving the tractor out in the extremely cold weather had made the metal post more brittle, and combined with my tendency to use too much...

No hydraulics in lift / lower function

Thanks Dave. From talking it over with the service technician at the dealer, we both think it's quite likely that the cold temperatures here are causing the valve to lock up in the detent position. The night that I parked the tractor (outside in 5º temperature), I set the snowblower in the...

No hydraulics in lift / lower function

Ok thanks! That’s a big help. Time to get under the tractor I guess. 8° outside and snowing. Maybe tomorrow

No hydraulics in lift / lower function

Thanks all... Your suggestions have helped me narrow things down. I took the cover off all the right-side controls inside the cab. Now I can see the base of the joystick better. Looks like everything is connected there. I followed the two flexible cable housings down out of the cab to where...

I'll try that. Last time I pasted a vimeo link it just displayed the URL, not the video. Will try again. Thanks.

What did you do to or on your Kubota today?

Damn. Great design and the photos really help explain what you're up to. Once the snow melts here in a couple months, I'll be using your boulder slinging technique.

What did you do to or on your Kubota today?

Great looking project! Now that that the boulders are in place, will they be embedded in the concrete? I have no idea how you get a 500 lb boulder into the bucket, but hope to figure it out next summer. Please post photos when the yard is done.

Hi All: I have been able to embed a YouTube video just fine, but would like to embed a Vimeo video also. Tried pasting the embed code in between html tags, but that doesn't do it. Any suggestions? Thanks!

    First-time snowblower operation

Thanks again to all for the various suggestions in this thread. I have finally experienced pretty much the full range of snow types up here, and feel way more comfortable with the setup now. You were all a big help. I think I now have to include a short video of the conditions last week -...
