Idle too high and shuts down when lowered, problems running

Ok, the update is that I fixed it and it was actually the loose #1! Thanks so much Daren Todd with the help, I am a happy camper now, even though the summer is over but the boat runs and that makes me really happy.

Idle too high and shuts down when lowered, problems running

It was never used after the rebuild, so I hope it's just lose. How do I make it not leak? Here is a picture for reference

Idle too high and shuts down when lowered, problems running

So, I tried to look at the pump over the weekend, here is what I got. As per manual After un-screwing the lines on top of injection pump the fuel always comes out, no matter the position of crankshaft, it changes the amount but it always pours, it's nor just wetness. This happens with one...

Idle too high and shuts down when lowered, problems running

Some update on the progress - the hole I need to open to look at the timing mark is in inconvenient place, covered by engine mounts in the boat. I might need to unscrew the mount to get access, didn't have tools to do that. I can only go there on the weekends, so will update next week.

Idle too high and shuts down when lowered, problems running

Thanks for the manual! I looked at it, and it says I would need to put shims under the pump to adjust timing. I looked at the parts list from Kubota and I don't see shims that I need, they are not in their illustrated manual. Can someone point me to the part number I need?

Idle too high and shuts down when lowered, problems running

Injectors and injector pump were replaced, so I don't think they are bad. The timing of injector pump might be though. So, how do I check the shims for the pump? And how do I check timing gears?

Idle too high and shuts down when lowered, problems running

No, didn't check anything. How do I check timing? I am suspecting the injector pump might be the issue since it was replaced before re-manufacturing the engine and since engine never run after that the guy who replaced it never had a chance to do anything with timing.

Idle too high and shuts down when lowered, problems running

I have z750 kubota based engine (it's a marine type AKA Universal 5416 or M20). It's the engine Kubota uses on kubota L185 tractor. It was recently rebuilt (the head replaced, it had bad compression so extensive work was done to get it up - new piston rings, etc.), injector pump was changed as...

Repairing engine that has low compression

So, finally the mechanic I found got to the engine and he is saying he has problems finding parts. Here is what he is asking: - what is the cylinder wall size. Max clearance between the piston and the wall. -Standard piston size diameter (ie, 10-over, 20-over, etc). What is the maximum...

Repairing engine that has low compression

I adjusted the clearance and the head was replaced.

Repairing engine that has low compression

That's understandable. The question is - do I even want to do anything with it, or just get rid of the boat or get a new one. I already replaced the head, so it's in the cylinders now I would guess.

Repairing engine that has low compression

So, anyone knows good mechanic in New York state? Could be NJ or CT too, but I would prefer Long Island. I found this guy: http://www.thomas-auto.com/ and he seems to know what he is doing, but he can't give a quote before he determines what needs to be done.

Repairing engine that has low compression

I don't think it ingested water, I had water problem though - someone tried to steal the fuel from the boat and they didn't close the fuel cap, so I had a lot of water in the fuel tank and I think it might have made it way lower. I noticed that though before starting the engine and I got rid of...

Repairing engine that has low compression

I have an engine that is based on Kubota, it is in my boat, Universal 5416. It is based on Kubota Z751 block. I suspected that there was a problem with fuel system, but it looks like the problem is elsewhere - I checked the compression and it was 200 in both cylinders, far lower then...

    Kubota Z751 injector pump

Thanks, that spring on the left is what I have, it looks like it's there to stop the rack pin.

    Kubota Z751 injector pump

This is perfect, exactly what I needed. Looks like the spring number 5 (start spring) as well as the spring on the left (not in this picture) are not connected. Can't believe the mechanic who installed the pump didn't do it.

    Kubota Z751 injector pump

Thanks a lot, that would be very helpful! How is the left spring attached? Is there a hole there? I only saw a cylinder and didn't see how it could be attached.

    Kubota Z751 injector pump

Yes, I can move it by hand, there is almost no resistance. There is a spring on the left side towards the flywheel, but the rack pin doesn't touch it unless I move it. This is actually on a boat, but the engine is z751, it doesn't differ in injector pump area. Here are some pictures (the bad...

    Kubota Z751 injector pump

The battery is fine, 11.4 was on the plugs, I think the voltage drops a bit. The starter rotates fine, pretty fast, I had a new battery and topped it off with charger overnight. How much fuel exactly there should be? I see only a small drop coming out each time the pump is pumping and I...

    Kubota Z751 injector pump

It was frozen before, that's why the pump was replaced. Right now it doesn't seem like moving the throttle moves it much, there is very little movement only when I move it all the way back to shut down the engine. That's the reason I think it wasn't installed correctly and that's why I am...
