if the pins go over center and lock your good. if for some reason there was any misalignment between the plate and the hitch the springs on the pins will tighten up when you use it.

why not get a roll of heavy weight polyethylene and line it. It will get destroyed when you unload but the cost per use shouldnt be to bad for a trailer that size.
