Hi everyone,
I just bought a gr2100, not knowing of the transmission issues they have. It has 1300 hours and its a 2005. I was wondering if there was any way to tell if the transmission has already been rebuilt? I think it probably has to of been rebuilt already with the age and hours on it. It runs, drives, and, cuts well.
Thanks for the help!

I would not so much worry IF/WHEN it has been rebuilt.
I would make sure that fluid/filters are changed .......... sooner than later.

Don't worry about the mule going blind - load the wagon!

Ok thanks for the info. The guy I bought it from said he just changed all the filters and fluids.
Would you recommend keeping this, or selling it? Had I done my research before hand I probably wouldn't have bought it.

We have over a dozen GR series mowers come in every year for winter service special. The owners love them and have very little trouble with them.

Some have almost 2000 hours on them, have never been rebuilt, and operate like new.

I really like mine so far, the 4 wheel drive system is super cool.
I be sure to do all the proper service

I buy/sell about 500 pieces of equipment a year, every brand/model/etc.

I won't take a GR series mower unless the owner pays me to. And that has happened.

I have been burned on a few of them over the years. Those transmissions are neither easy nor cheap to fix, and the originals will need some repair at some point (guaranteed). It costs more to fix them than they bring. You can put $5000 into a transmission pretty easily, and with their reputation, they typically don't bring $2500 running/mowing. So I quit buying them, period. Dealer called me recently and said they had a rough traded-in 2100 that still works for $350. I said nope..

I kinda like the principle, I kinda don't like the lack of longevity.
