Hey guys seems like a great forum you have here. So here goes the stupid new guy question. I just bought a Kubota L1801DT tractor and I would like to know what all the leavers do. Im new to tractors so take mercy on me.

There are no stupid questions, only stupid answers

First things first, Congratulations on your tractor and welcome to the OTT :D

Lastly, I don't know enough about your tractor to answer your question. But there are those that do and they will be along to give you the advice you seek.

Well lets, see, first off, there are no stupid questions, although I have been known to give stupid answers, but that's another story.

The lever beside the seat on the RH side at the fender controls the 3 point hitch.
The little "L" shaped pedal just above the foot rest on the RH foot board, engages the differential lock.
The lever that is located on the LH side of the transmission that is located directly opposite your lower leg (when sitting with your feet on the foot boards) operates the tractors hi-lo range transmission. Your L-1801DT will have 16F and 2R speeds.
The longer stick shift on the transmission is your operating gears, will show 8F speeds with Reverse over to the left and up.

The shorter, flatter profile shifter on the LH side of the main stick shift, is the PTO speed selector, shosing positions 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Position 1, is your standard ground contacting/mowing PTO speed, and will deliver 540 to the PTO stub when in position 1, and you adjust the engine speed tachometer to hit the hash mark indicated on your oval shaped dash tach/hour meter.

On the RH side of the transmission body standing somewhat upright and the the right of the main gear shift is the 4WD engagement lever.

If your L-1801DT has the very rare 'creeper' gear set option, you will have yet another stick shift on the transmission, this lever will be short and mounted sideways ontop of the transmission housing near the main gear shift lever and the PTO shift lever.

Here's a few pics of an L-1801 2WD we once had here at the shop!

Thanks everyone expecialy Service Department Vic. Mine must have the creeper gear as it has the short sideways leaver on the transmission housing. I bought this tractor to fit down my trails in the bush and I think it is going to work great. I dont know what year it is 80-85?, buy it only has 550 hours with a loader and box scraper and is in good shape except for the front of the hood which took a hit from somthing. Which way is 4wd? foreward or backward. Will take a few pics. Thanks guys.

You mean, upload a picture of how a Kubota looks before I service it up?

Sure, how about this one from that little shop test drive you sent me on!

You do remember this little test drive, right Mr. K.?

You sent me down the road to see if I could find the source of a squeeking brake while you and the customer went to the reception area for a coffee, remember?

While you two were adding two lumps of sugar to your 'Kubota' coffee mugs and making small talk about that RTV, neither of you remembered to tell me the brake pedal linkages were disconnected, remember that?

Well, OK, if you've already forgotten what the dirty side of a Kubota looks like, here ya go!

SD VIC, Looks like it would have been a good time for a cold one and some contemplation over the new service request form for the shop. Hope all turned out OK.

P.S. Thanks to both you and Mr. K. for the best forums I've seen on the net..
