Just what does that mean I have seen it a couple of places for implaments.

Just guessing, but I it sounds to me like it is a non-standard manufacturers designation for light duty implements. Category 1 threepoint hitches have been used for tractors up to at least 45 horsepower, which would be able to destroy several of the implements sized for our little under 20 HP Kubotas.

The category rating on a three point hitch "3pt" measures roughly the size of the implement at hand and which tractor can run what. There are 3 common types. Cat 0 3pt for the real small stuff, Cat 1 3pt which is pretty much the standard normal system and then there's a Cat 2 3pt for the big boy toys. Alot of manufactures have caught on to the fact that more and more people are buying tractors under 20hp and have created a line of equipment just for those toys. Like King Kutter for example has a line called the XB series which is tailored to small tractors.

I have a Kubota B6100E which is a sub compact, about 14hp and it has a Cat 1 3pt hitch and I've used 5 and 6 foot wide implements behind my tractor with no problem. The for attachments I own for it are all 4 foot wide, but I've borrowed some of my dads attachments he uses behind his larger L275 with out any problems what so ever. The only 2 things he has I cant pick up and use are a 6 foot aerator and a 300lb broadcast spreader.

I'm sorry let me correct myself there are 4 areas of the 3pt hitch system. The fourth category is the Cat 3 system for tractors 90hp and above. I found this useful link at Wikipedia if anyone is interested in learning more about the Cat ratings and the history of how the system came about.

As the categories (1, 2, 3) go up, the size of the lift pins and their corresponding holes on the tractor lift arms get thicker. This also holds true for the top links and their attachment pins on the tractor. This keeps us from trying to lift HUGE category 2 and 3 implements with category 1 tractors for example (i.e. CAT 1 limited). On the other hand, my tractor has a category 2 hitch. It can lift both category 1 and 2 implements (but the holes in the hitch of my tractor would keep me from trying to lift a category 3 implement).
