One that doesnt have a cracked piston case is usually a good one. Might have to head over to Powerwashertalk.com and ask those fellas over there LOL. Honda makes a good washer or Northstar from Northern Tool make a wide selection of washers.

Yeah I am stayn far away from Northern Tool as I charged quite alot on my AmEpress as to only find the very next day after I did my order with them some one was using my account for places like Gap.com and UPS.
Lucky AmEx hunted them down and cleared up all my problems.
I do have a cut off saw I bought through them I will sell you.....don't work well any more.

K'archer makes some good units. Apparently they were selected to clean Mt Rushmore. Stay away from the adjustable nozzles - they don't work for me. I have a McCulloch electric 1600 psi for washing the cars & light work, but I put a standard hose & fixed nozzle trigger on it. I only use the yellow one.
For the heavier work I have a 2200 psi unit from Costco. The gas engine is Honda. I can't recall the actual make of the washer, but I don't see much difference in the way the compressors are built.

I dont know for sure. When I was in a wrecker a few years back it was around 110 to 112 bucks an hour to work on something like that. Oh and thats PER truck. You'd need 2 heavy duty wreckers to get that Cat track hoe out for sure.

Crap! So even a salvage lik that wouldn't put a dent in the $300,000 for the wrecker :(
You would need a lot more idiots to pull out to get it payed off.

NOPE! And thats why most trucks get over a million miles on them and after a while a owner will swap out the cab and chassie and put the same old wrecker boom and tool boxes on a fresh new truck to keep costs down. I worked at a wrecker company that had a 1972 Kenworth rotator. It had well over one million miles so the bossman bought a brand new Western Star cab and chassie and took the old boom and body off the old and stuck it on the new.

OMG a million miles
Well, that makes perfectly good sense to swap over the money making end if it all still works. It's hard to believe people make money with those things

A wrecker with a rotator boom on it is a money making truck. Its basically a crane thats faster down the highway and faster at recovery work. The rotator boom will spin a complete 360 degrees making it very useful on the side of the highway when traffic space is limited.

Really one power washer is as good as another. Most all commonly have a Briggs and Stratton motor. And a pump is a pump. What sets them apart is the hore power of the motor and the size of the pump. The average power washer is 1500-2500 psi, with a 5-6hp motor. You best bet is to look at what you intend to clean as to how big of a washer you need to buy. And consider if its got alot or grease and grime would a hot washer work.

Oh God Eric,
now I am worried, the hot washer is $$ and I was thinking of 2500psi washer with the B&S engine.
Check out the pixs of my equipment here to see if you would suggest a heated washer

Note the tractor, I can get it real muddy, trust me
Eric McCarthy

I'd say get one around 2500-3500 psi would do you just fine. A hot washer wont make much of a differance for dirt and mud. So save yourself some money and get a normal washer. The 2 benefits from a hot wash is it makes it a lil easier to clean grease and alot damn nice to wash with in the winter time so ya dont get frost bite tryin to clean the tractor.
